  • About Us

Lucknow was and is the centre of chikan embroidery, renowned for its timeless grace and its gossamer delicacy, a skill more than 200 years old --- exploited, commercialised but not dead. In fact, the craft is alive and has its own beauty and elegance. Thanks to the women in and around Lucknow who are performing this laborious task for the sake of people who love to wear chicken embroidery.

Incorporated in 2001, Lucknow Chikan House works with independent centers for the benefits of these women workers. We also have association with NGO's who are working to enhance this hand embroidery art by helping and training the weaker section of women in villages around Lucknow. Further this hand embroidery has been given fantastic styles and designs on various garments.
We at Lucknow Chikan House understand the various stitches and the quality of embroidery for our customers.

We offer you the finely crafted apparels and home textile items crafted by the skilled craftsmen at most reasonable prices to give a graceful and elegant look to anyone who wears it. In apparels our customers can select from a range of chikan garments mainly women's wear, men's wear and kids wear.

Lucknow is famous for its small-scale industries that are based on unique styles of embroidery, namely, Chikan Lakhnawi Zardozi, both of which are significant foreign exchange earners. Chikan has caught the fancy of fashion designers in bollywood and abroad.

This hand embroidery is very time consuming process where it takes 15 days for a "small kurti" to 6 months for an all over saree, This is why chikan is so expensive as compared to machine embroidery. But it is worth it as you really do feel like queen when you wear it. Really the great thing about this form of embroidery is that it never goes out of fashion and it suits women as well men of all ages.

Chikankari is not limited to garments alone. Chikan is basically a way of life in Lucknow, especially for the chikan karigars. It satisfies the fashionable as well as the domestic instinct. The Luckhnawis use chikan to grace their homes in the form of bedspreads, pillowcovers, curtains and drapes.

Today, there a handful of craftsmen and women who practice true chikankari, but they are almost a vanishing breed. The central and state government is making valiant efforts to sustain their craft by opening workshops where chikankars are trained to produce quality work, if not exactly reproduce the earlier aesthetic glory of chikancraft.

We at Lucknow Chikan House stay committed to offer this elegant fashion of chikan embroidery to our customers and at the same time to support the drive to keep this art alive and shine to its glory!
